HENSOLDT supplies power amplifiers for NATO data link

The sensor solutions provider HENSOLDT has received a follow-up order from the American L3Harris (formerly Viasat) for the delivery of high-performance electronics that will optimise NATO data links and thus the networking of individual troop units.

The contract, worth a high single-digit million amount, covers the manufacture and delivery of a further 100 power amplifiers for the MIDS LVT (Multifunctional Information Distribution System, Low Volume Terminal) data radio system of the US and European NATO troops of all branches of the armed forces. Since the first order in 2003, HENSOLDT has thus supplied approximately 4,500 power amplifiers for the MIDS programme.

The power amplifiers are among the performance-determining components of every data link. This tenth order in a row is a confirmation of our reliability as well as our technological competence in this sensitive area.

Thomas Altwasser, Programme Manager at HENSOLDT

MIDS is a Link-16 communication system with high-performance and interference-resistant digital links for the exchange of tactical information (data and voice) between NATO aircraft, ships, and ground stations. Thus, MIDS ensures interoperability and enables cross-force missions. The power amplifier must guarantee high transmission power in a small installation space and at the same time the highest possible reception sensitivity. HENSOLDT also supplies similar electronic components to the European EuroMIDS consortium consisting of INDRA, Leonardo, Thales and HENSOLDT.
