Twenty-six nations, more than 40 ships and submarines, more than 200 aircraft, and 25,000 personnel are participating in RIMPAC from June 30 to Aug. 4, in and around the Hawaiian Islands and Southern California. The world's largest international maritime exercise, RIMPAC provides a unique training opportunity that helps participants foster and sustain the cooperative relationships that are critical to ensuring the safety of sea lanes and security on the world's oceans. Republika Korei rozpoczyna budowę kolejnego niszczyciela

16 lutego w południowokoreańskiej stoczni Hyundai Heavy Industries w Ulsan odbyła się uroczystość rozpoczęcia budowy pierwszego niszczyciela rakietowego typu Sejong the Great należącego do II serii produkcyjnej.

Łącznie ma ona liczyć trzy jednostki, które zostały zamówione przez południowokoreańską agencję zamówień wojskowych DAPA w 2019 roku. Trzy pierwsze zostały wprowadzone do służby w latach 2008-2012 i obecnie stanowią najpotężniejsze jednostki nawodne Marynarki Wojennej Republiki Korei. Ich projekt bazuje na amerykańskich rozwiązaniach niszczycieli typu Arleigh Burke, wśród różnic wymienia się większą liczbę wyrzutni pionowego startu, a także większą liczbę przenoszonych pocisków przeciwokrętowych. Według dostępnych informacji, nowa wersja ma charakteryzować się dłuższym kadłubem (o około 4 metrów) – prototyp ma zostać dostarczony flocie do listopada 2024 roku.

Aby przyspieszyć proces budowy władze Republiki Korei planują zastosowanie podobnego rozwiązania jak w przeszłości. Całą serię mają budować dwie główne stocznie – Hyundai Heavy Industries oraz Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering. Dotychczas władze nie upubliczniły jednak informacji odnośnie liczby jednostek, która zbuduje każda z nich.
