No two days are alike in the police force. Riot police in closed units not only have to cope with changing weather conditions such as heat, cold, wind, and rain, but also have to be prepared for hazards such as brief contact with flames during their daily operations. To meet these challenges, the GORE-TEX® brand has developed a flame-retardant, modular clothing system in which all layers can be combined depending on the weather, temperature, and operation.
The PYRAD® Daily Duty Uniform Light by GORE-TEX LABS® is now also available as a base layer—it is specially designed for use in warm weather or during high physical exertion and offers additional comfort thanks to its stretch fabric.

The GORE-TEX® brand will be presenting innovative technology for police forces from February 23 to 25 at ENFORCE TAC 2026 in Nuremberg in Hall 7A, Booth 7A-537.
The new PYRAD® Daily Duty Uniform Light by GORE-TEX LABS® is exceptionally lightweight, very supple, and highly breathable. The material dries quickly, preventing it from sticking uncomfortably to the skin when sweating or in the rain. The stretch content ensures greater comfort, which is essential for longer operations in warm weather.
“For police officers who work long shifts in different environments and under physical stress, comfort is not a luxury, but a prerequisite for performance and safety. With the PYRAD® Daily Duty Uniform Light from GORE-TEX LABS®, we combine flame protection with low weight, good ventilation, and high freedom of movement—without compromising on the level of protection.
The result is operational clothing that is ideal for everyday police work, especially in high temperatures and during physical activity. This allows officers to concentrate fully on their mission.“

Protection that works in practice

In extensive practical tests under demanding conditions, police officers rated the new uniform as significantly lighter and less stiff than conventional models – ”like lightweight hiking pants.” Freedom of movement, breathability, comfort, and fit received top marks.
The majority of test subjects would choose the uniform as their preferred choice for continuous use – even in comparison to reference models and their current equipment.
Base layer of a modular PYRAD® clothing system
The PYRAD® Daily Duty Uniform Light from GORE-TEX LABS® serves as the base layer of a modular clothing system for riot police in closed units, in which all layers are flame-retardant and can be flexibly combined depending on climatic conditions and operational scenarios. Each layer is composed of different laminates, each equipped with innovative PYRAD® flame retardant technology. This is based on a physical effect: small, reactive graphite particles, which are evenly incorporated into the fabric, expand rapidly when exposed to sudden heat or flames, forming a stable, self-extinguishing carbon layer. This greatly reduces heat flow and stops the spread of flames. As a result, the fabric remains undamaged, does not burn and does not drip.
